This approach to CAD conversion, utilizes advanced recognition software to replace raster objects with the corresponding vector equivalent. The software has the capability to recognize a majority of the geometry contained within the raster image including the text.

Because the recognition is not perfect, there is a vector editing and QA step following the automated process. Vector editing is also required to ensure the layering is correct. The amount of editing is a function of the drawing type and condition of the paper or film. Isometric illustrations, some engineering drawings and topo maps lend themselves to this type of conversion.
